We make one of the three apps compared here, so read this with that in mind. We have tried to write the comparison we would have wanted before installing anything: what each app costs, what it does, and which one to choose for which shop — including the cases where ours is the wrong answer.
All prices and figures below were checked on 17 September 2026 against each app’s Shopify App Store listing. Verify before deciding; listings change.
The short answer
- StatusPro — the most complete feature set and a four-year track record. The default choice if you want QR scanning, Flow, or an API, and are willing to pay up a tier for them.
- W3 Custom Order Status — the only one of the three with SMS. If you need to text customers, this is the choice, and the comparison ends here.
- Statuscraft — the newest, the simplest, and the cheapest per order at the entry tier. Built for made-to-order shops that want stages, emails, and a lookup page without a workflow engine attached.
What they cost
The headline price is not the useful number. Order volume limits differ enough between these apps that the same $19 buys very different capacity.
| Entry price | Orders included | Next tier | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Statuscraft | $9/mo | 500/mo | $19 → 2,000/mo · $29 → 5,000/mo |
| StatusPro | $9/mo | 200/mo | $19 → 1,000/mo · $29 → 2,000/mo · $99 → 4,000/mo |
| W3 | $19/mo | 300/mo | $59 → 5,000/mo |
All three run a 14-day free trial and bill through Shopify.
Per order at the entry tier: Statuscraft $0.018, StatusPro $0.045, W3 $0.063. At around 2,000 orders a month the gap narrows — Statuscraft $19, StatusPro $29, W3 $59.
One difference worth knowing: StatusPro ties data retention to plan — six months on Simple, a year on Essential, two years on Pro and Enterprise. Statuscraft keeps status history for as long as the app is installed on every tier. If you need to look back at an order from two years ago, check which tier you would actually need.
What they do
| Statuscraft | StatusPro | W3 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unlimited custom statuses | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Automated emails | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Customer lookup page | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Due dates | All tiers | Yes | — |
| SMS | No | No | Growth ($59) |

| Multi-language templates | No | — | Growth ($59) |
| No storefront script | Yes | — | — |
| Reviews | None yet | 87 (5.0) | 66 (4.8) |
That table is the honest version. StatusPro and W3 both do materially more than we do.
Where the other two win
Choose W3 if you need SMS. Neither we nor StatusPro send text messages. For some customers — trade counters, urgent collections, demographics that do not read email — SMS is the channel that works. No amount of anything else substitutes.
Choose StatusPro if you want automation. QR scanning to update status from the workshop floor, Shopify Flow, an API, webhooks, automatic time-based transitions. If you want orders advancing themselves on a schedule, or status updates from a phone scanning a job sheet, StatusPro is built for it and we are not. Their 87 five-star reviews over four years are real evidence from merchants who have run it in production — which we cannot match and will not pretend to.
Choose either if reviews matter to your decision. We launched recently and have none. That is a legitimate reason to pick something else, and we would rather say so than manufacture social proof.
Where we think we win
Price per order at low-to-mid volume. $9 for 500 orders against $9 for 200 or $19 for 300. If you are doing a few hundred orders a month, we are less than half the cost per order.
Nothing added to your storefront. Statuscraft injects no script into your theme. The lookup is one page you add yourself, and it is the only page that loads anything — product, collection, cart, and checkout pages are untouched. Both other apps take the conventional storefront-script approach.
Every feature on every tier. Our tiers differ only by order volume. Due dates work on the $9 plan. Neither competitor does this: StatusPro gates Flow, API, and retention by tier; W3 gates SMS, API, and automation behind the $59 plan. If you want one specific advanced feature, you pay for the tier carrying it.
Less to configure. This is a real trade-off, not a euphemism. We do less, so there is less to set up. For a workshop that wants five stages, three emails, and a page customers can check, a workflow engine is weight you configure once and then work around. For a shop that genuinely needs automation, our simplicity is a limitation.
Which to choose
Made-to-order, under ~2,000 orders/month, want stages and a lookup page: Statuscraft. Cheapest per order, everything on every tier, nothing added to the storefront.
Need SMS: W3. Only option of the three.
Need QR scanning, Flow, an API, or automatic transitions: StatusPro. Most complete and most proven.
Want a track record before installing: StatusPro (87 reviews, 5.0) or W3 (66, 4.8). We have none yet.
Over 5,000 orders/month: all three need a conversation. Write to us and we will quote; the others have enterprise tiers.
A note on comparison posts
We wrote this knowing we lose several rows outright. A comparison that had us winning everything would be worth nothing to you and would not survive thirty seconds against the actual listings.
If SMS or QR scanning is what you need, install one of the others — that is the correct outcome, and we would rather you get the right tool than churn off ours in a fortnight.
Statuscraft is a 14-day free trial through Shopify, then $9 a month for 500 orders.
